Half Moon Bay says... I will evetually get round
to cross referencing and linking everything here to the
relevant Angel
Air releases represented. Which is most of them as
these are taken from current or near-future Angel Air releases,
and as such, this proves to be a more than adequate taster
for those CDs.
Its nicely arranged in chronological order (pre-Mott bands
excepted) on both CDs and has some tasters of future products.
The John Fiddler track has me desperate for more of that
(note that the track provided here didn't appear on the
then forthcoming 'The
Big Buffalo'). And as far as I can see, no-one has
been missed out: Steve Hyams is here, Morgan, Doc Thomas
Group, Ronsons Rats, Ray Majors and so on. There is even
a track from Overend Watts, a taster from what will surely
be an eagerly awaited addition to many Mott fans collections.
There's no Ian Hunter solo stuff here, but the critieria
here for inclusion is Angel Air product. And we Mott fans
really do owe Peter Purnell and his label a big debt of
gratitude. We have had so many records to choose from over
the past year or so. Who would have thought there would
have been so much Mott related product coming onto the
market a mere five years ago?
Buff supplies excellent sleeve notes once again. And if
I had the money, I would try to tempt him to write his
definitive Mott the Hoople biography.
The Classic Rock magazine review feels that these
notes are the highlight of the package and add that they
have been written by "...Mott the Hooples original
drummer" . I am currently drafting the letter that
reminds them he was, in fact, their only drummer.
For a taster, a good buy, nicely presented and tracks
well ordered. However, in most cases, the full CDs are
well worth the cash if you can afford it.
Terry Burgess. Dec 1999.
