"Judge" recorded live...

Half Moon Bay says... I
suppose I viewed this record with some suspicion at first:
I had read (somewhere) how Hyams had been put, or had put
himself, in the frame to replace Hunter at one point in
a version of Mott or Mott the Hoople... hey, why am I telling
you lot? You all know more than me...
Anyway, as we all know, it didn't work out but there was
a CD that I once saw in Tower in London that purported
to be Mott the Hoople featuring Steve Hyams and I could
never work out the motives and who really put it out and
all that.
So, I viewed this record with some suspicion. But, hey,
you know what? It's OK. It has taken me a while to get
around to posting the details of this disc here on Half
Moon Bay and I have just played it again and I find myself
singing along to it!
Its not the best thing that has come out of the Mott the
Hoople and Friends association with Angel Air, but its
OK. Played well enough, songs are OK and one or two are
pretty good.
Also, you can see why some may have felt Steve could have
been a Hunter type person for our heroes: in one or two
places the phrasing and the sound are quite reminiscent
of the shaded one.
A bonus is that Ray Majors turns up on a couple of tracks
and his playing is as top drawer as ever. I am now a big
fan of his, thats for sure...
So, completests will need this CD as it features Ray and
maybe because of Steve's brief flirtation with Mott the
Hoople as well. Can't say that its a must have. If you
only have enough for one CD then choose a British
Lions disc or Ray Majors' own and very fine 'First
Poison'.
But hey, it's OK.
