Half Moon Bay says... Look, I like this sort of
stuff. OK?
Well, I used to have (and still have rolled-up in the
loft or attic) a couple of Roger Dean posters. Now
these were posters of the sleeves of albums I used to stare
at intensely as 'Close to the Edge' and others invaded
my teenage senses through the ever-present headphones way
back then...
And, since the advent of this wonderful medium known as
CD, I have added a couple of ELP and Yes classics to the
growing and ever disparate collection.
I suppose there are tinges of Genesis in the Morgan stuff
here displayed. It is all dominated, you'll be surprised
to hear, by Morgan Fishers very accomplished playing. There
is a sense of fun that manages to come through, reflecting
the personalities involved and thus thumbing a nose at
the popular image of 'prog rock' and the prog rockers.
But then Tim Staffells lyrics and his delivery of them
seem to make Andersons meanderings just that.
Confusingly, this is the second Morgan album recorded
in the seventies but the first released by Angel Air. I
guess you do have to have an ear and a sympathy for this
kind of music, but I have been pleasantly surprised by
this record. Not the first time that Angel Air have done
that to me, and hopefully it won't be the last.
